SQL Database Administrator (DBA)

We are seeking a talented Database Administrator to maintain and support company databases. This position helps ensure databases are secure, scalable, and optimized for end-user performance. In addition, the Database Administrator analyzes and troubleshoots database related issues and provides solutions.

WHAT YOU CAN LOOK FORWARD TO

  • Develops and maintains new and existing database systems.
  • Proactively pursues development opportunities, learns existing environment and processes and exhibits progress on learning plan.
  • Builds strong internal and external partnerships.
  • Actively supports strategic future, culture and leadership practices.
  • Creates and maintains basic to moderately complex database systems for the benefit of internal and external customers.
  • Assists in the development of technical database design documents.
  • Provides initial unit testing of all database development and enhancements with the goal of providing a stable production environment while optimized for end-user performance.
  • Utilizes change management software and follow all change management processes.
  • Builds and maintains database systems in such a way that exceeds regulatory requirements. Security is a critical design requirement and data, systems, and applications must be protected at all points of the development lifecycle.
  • Learns key processes that support the database environment. Shadows team members to learn existing processes; uses tools necessary to learn and document those processes with the goal of being able to play a role in a production support rotation.
  • Identifies development opportunities and works with manager to establish learning focus and learning plan.
  • Manages learning plan and reports on progress during one-on-ones with supervisor.
  • Provides after-hours and weekend support as required

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • BS in Computer Science / Computer Information Systems or equivalent training and/or experience.
  • 5+ years of experience working with providing on-call troubleshooting and monitoring of SQL Server databases.
  • Basic knowledge of Modern OS architecture concepts and communications protocols
  • Basic knowledge of SSRS, SSIS, T-SQL, stored procedures, MS SQL Server 2008 R2 – 2016, networking concepts, and database design and development.
  • Provide level I support and triage for job failures, disc issues, and backup problems.
  • PostgreSQL experience would be a plus, but is not required
  • Fundamental software development methodologies, design and implementation.
  • Knowledge of entire development process, including specification, documentation and quality assurance.
  • Basic knowledge of database backup concepts, query optimization, and data security.
  • Analytical, design and problem-solving skills at multi-product/multi-environment level to troubleshoot system defects and mitigate the issues they cause.
  • Skills in research and analysis, project planning and implementation. Understanding and awareness of business issues as they impact overall project plans.
  • Good verbal and written communications skills, with an ability to express and document complex technical concepts in business terms. Person must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with technical staff, non-technical staff, end-users for requirements gathering, testing, training, and outcome validation.
  • Good team-oriented interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work effectively in a cross-functional project team environment.
  • Fundamental understanding of concepts of project planning and project management techniques to assist in small projects and/or group initiatives.
